FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE | Contact: Matt Caracappa (mattc@usahockey.org) | Friday, October 23, 2009 | | | USA Hockey Announces H1N1 Recommendations | | COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - USA Hockey, with the counsel of Dr. Michael Stuart, its chief medical officer, today issued the following information regarding the H1N1 infection, including recommendations to reduce the likelihood of spreading the infection. USA Hockey recommends:
- Providing individual water bottles for players and not sharing water bottles. - Regularly washing hands. - Cleaning workout gear for each practice/competition. - Keeping gloves on during the traditional handshake with opponents. Individuals with influenza may develop typical signs or symptoms, including: fever (102 degrees fahrenheit or greater), cough, muscle aches, runny nose, headache or sore threat, with the potential for more serious complications, including pneumonia. This year's influenza virus strain has particularly affected children and young adults. Transmission of the influenza virus may occur from the day before the onset of symptoms and during the five-to-seven days that the symptoms are present. Infected individuals should stay home until signs and symptoms have resolved, with no fever present for at least 24 hours. The 24-hour no-fever timeline should be achieved naturally, without the aid of fever reducing medications. Additional information regarding H1N1 is available from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. |

USA HOCKEY RULE- REMINDER:
CBHL has asked that we remind parents that they are NOT allowed on the ice for any reason. In fact, it is a USA Hockey rule that no coaches or parents are allowed on the ice for any reason unless a referee invites them on the ice. This holds true for injured players who may be down on the ice as well. Only coaches, invited on the ice by an official, are allowed near a hurt player. If someone enters the ice and claims to be medically certified and a player receives inappropriate care there could potentially be negative consequences for the hurt player, league and our organization. If there is an injury on the ice and it is determined that medical assistance is needed, the coach can let the official know who is present and qualified to assist. It has been pointed out that any certified medical professional would be able to leave all emotion off the ice as they tend to the injured player.
Bantam Players Represent Fury at Capitals Youth Shootout Weekend

Congratulations to Eric Bannon, Devon Shields and Shawn Lane who participated in the Capitals Youth Shootout this past weekend. All three players successfully qualified for the semi final rounds of the shootout. Shawn Lane tied for second place in most goals scored after three rounds of the shootout. All three players will represent the Fury in the semifinal round this coming Sunday evening which matches the remaining Maryland qualifiers against a similar group of Virginia participants. The Fury Organization Wishes you the Best of Luck in the next round!
September 20, 2009 Update: Congratulations to our Three Fury Players representing our Organizations. Eric, Devon and Shawn did well in the semi final shootout against Virginia. Even though they did not come out on top they should be commended for their effort. Eric Bannon came short by just one goal in a sudden elimination against Montgomery to move on to finals. Devon Shields was solid in the Midgets division, but fell just short of the finals. Shawn Lane tied at third as a shooter in an intense heat against seven other great players from Maryland and Virginia.
